About this property

Welcome to Hotel At The Waldorf

Located at 1489 E Hastings St in Vancouver, Hotel At The Waldorf presents a hip, retro-modern vibe highlighted by unique features such as an Italian cafe, a kitschy tiki bar, and an adjoining craft brew and liquor store. The property offers free Wi-Fi, air-conditioned rooms, and some accommodations with kitchens, making it a practical choice for travelers seeking a blend of comfort and distinct local character. While the hotel is pet-friendly and smoke-free, it does not provide airport shuttle services, a fitness center, or pool access.

The atmosphere at the Waldorf has been described as comfortable and reflective of the era it was built, with guest reviews noting both the charm and some practical concerns, including noise from the club below and small room sizes. Staff are frequently praised for their helpfulness and responsiveness, with upgrades sometimes offered to address guest issues. The presence of on-site dining and drinking venues such as the Tiki Bar—a favored spot among visitors—adds a social element to the stay, complemented by occasional events hosted within the hotel's various spaces.

Set within a cosmopolitan area near Commercial Drive, the hotel is close to Italian shops, restaurants, and Grandview Park, offering a diverse urban experience. Notable attractions like Stanley Park, Granville Island, and the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park are within easy reach, making it a suitable base for visitors planning to explore Vancouver’s outdoor and cultural sights. The property is accessible from Vancouver International Airport by car or transit within approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

While some guests appreciate the value and location, others note the neighborhood’s edgier character and basic room amenities. The hotel lacks elevators and has some accessibility limitations, so it may be better suited to visitors comfortable with stairs and looking for a budget-conscious option with a distinctive local flavor rather than a full-service resort experience. Overall, Hotel At The Waldorf caters well to travelers looking for a lively, unconventional stay in Vancouver with convenient access to city attractions.

Retro-modern boutique hotel is like traveling back in time in decor and flair….Expect improvements from the team in place led by Shane. The atmosphere is comfortable and characteristic of the era it was built in. The Howe Sound Brewing company restaurant is connected through the main lobby to the hotel and offers well priced pub food and happy hour specials….my favorite is the one piece fish and chips…. An overall unique experience. Check also for events in the many different venues…

I want to thank Mia for her professionalism — she is an adorable and very kind employee. We arrived very late at night and were given a corner room. The issue with this room was that it was located directly above the club, so during the night you could hear the music and even feel the room shaking. As soon as we told her about this problem, she upgraded our room at no extra cost. I highly recommend this place, and if you have any concerns, please reach out to Mia — she is the best employee at this hotel.

Great staff nice restaurant. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The location is not the best but they make it safe with security around all the time we never felt uncomfortable. There is no elevator so be careful if you can't do steps there are no rooms on bottom floor

I booked without reading reviews! The proximity to the Rickshaw theatre was all I cared about (easy bus, just some blocks along East Hastings). Glad I didn't read the awful reviews as I either lucked out, or they've got better? The room was small but sufficient. Clean towels and sheets. Vinyl flooring, tile in bathroom. Mattress and boxspring encased in bugproofing enclosures (no bugs for me!). Room had a small fridge, TV worked, and what looked like a newer style AC unit up on the wall, but I didn't need it in February. I had a very nice meal and a Howe Sound beer during happy hour 3-6pm at the attached restaurant. There was no loud music problem, and my breakfast across the street at "Yolks" was really good. It was all ok.

Went to a private party in the Tiki room and the service was top notch. Basically one guy did everything most of the night - mixing drinks; bussing tables; even taking photos - he was polite, fast, clean and provided wonderful service. I did not stay at the hotel so I can't say anything about the amenities.

I was pleasantly surprised by my stay here. After reading some negative reviews, I decided there was enough positive feedback for me to give it a try. And the price was the best I could find in the city at the time. I did book it through my air miles but I believe the rate was something in the neighborhood of 120 per night. It's located in a somewhat sketchy area but I was aware of this before booking. The gentleman behind the front desk at check in was very friendly and conversational and gave me the feeling that this was going to be a good stay. This hotel is only a couple of floors so there is no elevator and the rooms are still secured using old school keys which I probably I just as secure if not more so than the modern key cards. Be warned that this is not a new hotel by any means and common areas could use a little bit of love as they are a little bit run down. Our room had been completely renovated and had new laminate flooring as throughout which gave a sense of cleanliness, and the rest of the room including the washroom was completely spotless. Bedding was relatively new, the bed was super comfortable. Some reviews mentioned street noise and noise from the downstairs bar but we came on a weeknight and the noise was virtually nothing, so we got a good nights sleep. So much so that we actually overslept and were an hour late for checkout. Graciously the staff did not charge us for the extra hour. Staff here are genuinely friendly and appear to enjoy their jobs very much which is nice to see. All in all, for value, this hotel did not disappoint. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend as probably the best budget hotel in the city.

I had a really pleasant stay at the Hotel at the Waldorf in Vancouver. The location is super convenient from a bus stop, which made getting around the city a breeze. There’s also a grocery store right nearby, which was handy for grabbing essentials. The hotel has a pub attached, which was a nice surprise. They had some deals, and guests get a 10% off coupon which definitely came in handy. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout my stay, and I appreciated how clean everything was especially the linens, which were fresh and spotless. The WiFi connection was strong, which was great since I needed to get a bit of work done during my trip. Just a heads-up for anyone booking a single room the walls are a bit thin, so noise can carry, and the space is pretty tight if you’re traveling with a large suitcase, it might feel a bit cramped. Also, there’s no microwave in the room, which would’ve been useful. Overall, for the price and location, I’d definitely stay here again! Clean, convenient, and good value.
